The XMIDI Channel Mute controller (107), if set to a value greater than or equal to 64, inhibits all further MIDI Note On messages in a given channel. To resume normal MIDI Note On transmission, a Channel Mute controller with a value of less than 64 should be transmitted.
This controller may be used in combination with the XMIDI Callback Prefix (108) or Indirect Controller Prefix (115) controllers to allow the application program to mute and unmute MIDI tracks selectively. It may also be transmitted at any time via the AIL_send_channel_voice_message function.
MIDI Note Off messages are not blocked by Channel Mute. This prevents "stuck notes" which could otherwise occur if a Channel Mute controller is received while one or more notes are active in the channel. Additionally, MIDI controller, Program Change, pitch bend, system exclusive, and other messages are unaffected.
